Gillen’s Eariler Years Gillen was born 10 weeks prematurely with the cord wrapped around his neck twice and with a bruise on his forehead that turned quickly into a hemangioma birthmark. The first year of his life was a living he** for both him and our family as we spent our days at the doctors, specialists and hospitals…he had multiple laser treatments, 2 other surgeries, a staph infection and was on high-dose steroids for about 8 months. He was miserable practically ALL of the time, day and night. We honestly didn’t know if or when we were ever going to get through the darkness and into the light, but of course with the Lord’s help, we did and our family is even stronger and more blessed today because of our experience with our miracle baby. Gillen has Cerebral Palsy and is quite severely affected both physically and mentally. He had a major sugery a couple of year ago for the spasicity in his legs which involved cutting nerves along his spine and various other procedures done in the hospital over the years.
